Volunteering with Vintage Vision

We've been going since 2009, and during that time we've had some fantastic volunteers and - hopefully - have given them something back in return. So we've decided now would be a good time to collect some of those experiences together. We're asking all our volunteers - past and present - to share their stories about volunteering with us. Here's one of the first from the wonderful Jo Perrin, who was an absolute star in helping get our Chepstow shop and project off the ground....
"Four years ago, I heard a talk at my W.I. about V.V. and knew it was something I wanted to be part of. I was accepted on a sewing course in conjunction with the museum and had a great time creating my own artefact inspired gown. I made friends, gained sewing confidence and had fun. As the Chepstow shop was opening, I had the chance to give something back and started volunteering. My whole family have been involved; shampooing carpet, dressing windows, designing posters, photographing fashion shows, serving teas. I have met some amazing people along the way and grasped some opportunities I never would have imagined doing. I have given a talk to a writing club, and a group of textile students at a university, I have strutted my stuff on catwalks, styled and dressed models, run a fashion show, pouted in vintage dress for a photo shoot, helped at fayres and been a regular volunteer at the Chepstow shop. You never know what might happen if you just try something. When I was made redundant, I decided that I wanted my next role to be in fashion; the experience I’d had with V.V. helped me secure that role"
